Dickey Betts In 'Critical But Stable' Condition After Fall At Sarasota Home

Dickey Betts suffered a nasty spill that landed him in the hospital Monday night (September 17).

According to reports from the Bradenton Herald, the founding member and former Allman Brothers Band guitarist has been sedated but remains in "critical but stable" condition after falling at his residence in Sarasota County, Florida.

The musician's longtime friend and manager, David Spero, was the first to detail what he described "just a freak accident" that caused the "Ramblin' Man" singer-songwriter to seek medical attention at an undisclosed local hospital.

Added accounts from a blog post made on Betts' website indicate the 74-year-old had been playing with the family dog in his backyard when he "slipped and cracked his head, causing bleeding in his brain."

He's since been scheduled to receive brain surgery to relieve swelling this Friday (September 21).

The scary mishap comes nearly a month after Betts experienced a mild stroke in August, which forced the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer to postpone several tour dates of his upcoming tour.

After weeks of treatment, Spero announced via the crooner's social media platforms: “Dickey Betts is raring to go. His recovery from his minor stroke is ahead of schedule and he has already started playing his guitar again.”

As far as we know, the rock legend's next shows have since been rescheduled for November.

Betts' wife, Donna, gave the following statement in light of the accident: “The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time. ... We are by his side giving him the strength  to pull through this.”
