These Are the Records that Could Be Broken at This Year's Oscars

There are eight records that could be broken at this year's Oscars depending on who wins, and I REALLY hope one of them happens. That would be if Jordan Peele won best director for "Get Out," making him not only the first African American to do so, but "Get Out" is also a horror movie and horror rarely gets love at the Oscars. Here are the other records that could be potentially broken:

1. If Christopher Plummer wins Best Supporting Actor for "All the Money in the World", he'll become the oldest winner of an Oscar for acting. He's 88.

He's also the current record-holder, after winning Best Supporting Actor for "Beginners" in 2012 . . . when he was 82.

2. If 22-year-old Timothée Chalamet wins Best Actor for "Call Me By Your Name", he'll become the youngest Best Actor recipient in history. The record is currently held by Adrien Brody, who was 29 when he won for "The Pianist" in 2003.

3. Rachel Morrison could become the first woman to win for Best Cinematography. She's nominated for "Mudbound".

4. If Jordan Peele wins Best Director for "Get Out", he'll be the first African-American in history to do so.

5. If "The Shape of Water" wins Best Picture, it'll be the first time the award has gone to a science fiction movie. "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" counts as FANTASY, not sci-fi.

Six other sci-fi movies have been nominated for Best Picture:

"A Clockwork Orange", "Star Wars", "E.T.", "Avatar", "District 9", and "Inception".

6. The Hugh Jackman movie "Logan" could become the FIRST live-action superhero movie to win Best Adapted Screenplay, but it's considered a long-shot.
